EU consultation: draft guidelines on high-risk AI classification

Open until Thursday 23 July 2026, 22:00 CET.

The EU AI Office is consulting on its draft guidelines for classifying high-risk AI systems under Article 6 of the EU AI Act. The guidelines will shape how the Act's high-risk category is applied in practice.

AI failures in animal contexts fall within the risks the guidelines address. Automated climate control in enclosed livestock housing is a clear example: a malfunction can be catastrophic, and there are documented incidents of exactly this happening. Yet the draft guidelines contain no livestock example. Responding to the consultation is a direct way to put that on the record.

We have prepared a guide to responding within the consultation's scope – which questions to answer, and how to put risks to farmed animals on the record in terms the AI Office can act on.
